Summary: William T. Hogg, a Flowood, MS, resident who was the founder of Valley Services, Inc. and the entrepreneur who brought us Dogwood Festival Market had a strong management philosophy. His program used a Captain's Wheel as the visual model with each of 16 spokes depicting a topic to be taught in the Company's Management Development Program. The program that was developed in the 60's is as applicable for managers today as it was then. This presentation will discuss some of the key spokes on the Wheel: IWA, the importance of maintaining a good image, watching your words, and setting an example with your actions; NOI, the necessity of interdependence or teamwork; creative adaptation, the ability to take something that you have learned and apply it to another aspect of your business or life; S & S, the importance of standardization and simplification in your work, and the issue of finding Balance.

This lively presentation, using examples from both Mr. Hogg's and the speaker's experience will provide takeaways that you can use before you leave the meeting.

The book, Coached by the Captain, will be published this summer and will be available this fall.

Sara Jane Hope is an experienced, dedicated, and enthusiastic trainer, facilitator, and coach. Having worked in employment and training in some form or fashion since 1980, she is a training and human resources professional dedicated to making a difference in the performance and knowledge of her trainees and the companies or organizations with whom she works. She is known for her interactive sessions that use many accelerated learning techniques.
